The opening of the “Koroglu” (formerly “Mashadi Azizbayov”) station of the Baku Underground has been held.
President Ilham Aliyev and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva have attended the opening ceremony.
Employees of the Baku Underground warmly welcomed the President and his wife at the “Koroglu” station.
The head of state cut the ribbon symbolizing the opening of the station.
The Chief of the Baku Underground, Tagi Ahmadov, informed the President and his wife about a new above-ground building of the station. It was noted that the reconstruction of the station, which is part of the first line of the Baku Underground, commenced in June 2010. The project was developed by an Austrian company, while construction and assembly work was carried out by an American company.
While reviewing the station, the head of state was informed that as part of the reconstruction a new hall in the form of a pyramid made of glass and metal has been built instead of the old pavilion. Its height is 20 meters, while the surface area is about 1,800 square meters.
President Ilham Aliyev and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva reviewed a pedestal in the lobby where a statue of national hero Koroglu will be put up, as well as design sketches, trade stalls which will operate inside the station and recreation facilities.
Then President Ilham Aliyev descended onto the platform. The head of state was briefed on the SOS signal equipment. It was mentioned that underground personnel can communicate all data to a center using this equipment.
It was also indicated that entrances, entrance halls and walls of the station are lined with marble and granite.
The platform is lined with marble, while each of the 32 columns is lined half with marble and half with a stainless metal.
In general, 10,000 square meters of tiling has been completed. Suspended ceilings with a modern lighting system are made of new materials. Three German escalators are installed at the station. The new above-ground lobby, technological and service areas are equipped with modern ventilation and water supply systems. A modern multi-color energy-efficient LED lighting system based on sophisticated computer technologies has been installed in the lobby for the first time in Azerbaijan. This is the first station of the Baku Underground to have a garden in the lobby.
President Ilham Aliyev and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva were informed that pedestrian subways had been built to facilitate entrance into the station from the streets with intense traffic.
The President and his wife reviewed the stands reflecting technical parameters of subways.
Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov said the establishment of subways primarily served the interests of safety and free movement of passengers using underground services and residents of nearby areas. The first and second tunnels built at the intersection of the Heydar Aliyev and Ziya Bunyadov avenues have the necessary conditions for the movement of pedestrians. The first tunnel is 140 and the second 65 meters long. Both tunnels are 6 meters wide. The tunnels are equipped with electronic boards regulating the movement of pedestrians and surveillance cameras.
The President expressed satisfaction with the work done at the station.
