President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has attended the opening of a road stretching from KP13 of the Zig roundabout-Heydar Aliyev International Airport highway to the Gala settlement.
The state program for 2011-2013, which is a continuation of the "Program of measures to accelerate the socioeconomic development of suburban settlements of Baku for 2006-2007" approved by a Decree of President Ilham Aliyev, along with many other areas, envisages the upgrade of the road infrastructure in the capital. Roads in Baku and its suburban settlements are currently reconstructed and new road junctions built at the advanced level. This is clearly evidenced by the construction of a modern road stretching from KP13 of the Zig roundabout-Heydar Aliyev International Airport highway to the Gala settlement.
Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov informed the President about the technical and economic parameters of the new road.
The road has been built as part of the activities envisaged in state programs on the development of the transport system in Baku and the socioeconomic development of suburban settlements of the capital approved by President Ilham Aliyev.
It also forms an important part of the road projects ongoing in Baku. The road is 12.5 km in length and has been built at the advanced level. Extensive landscaping work has been carried out along the road, modern road signs and lighting system installed. The new road will improve traffic conditions for the suburban settlements of Turkan, Zira, Gurgan, Pirallahi, Dubandi, Gala, Shuvalan and Mardakan and facilitate the traffic of vehicles heading into the city center. Road junctions, pedestrian underpasses and concrete water pipes have been built along the road.
President Ilham Aliyev was also informed about the pedestrian underpasses built at the intersection of Babak Avenue and K. Afkari Street, and Neftchilar Avenue and S. Safarov Street.
It was noted that the underpass located at the intersection of Babak Avenue and K. Afkari Street is 80 meters long and 8 meters wide. The modern underpass, 3.2 meters in height, has two exits. The underpass built at the intersection of Neftchilar Avenue and S. Safarov Street is also built at the advanced level. It is 89 meters long, 8 meters wide and 3 meters high. Four escalators have been installed here.
