Ilham Aliyev attended the opening of Nakhchivan-Sadarak highway

President Ilham Aliyev attended the opening of Nakhchivan-Sadarak highway, one of the main strategic highways of the Autonomous Republic.

The builders greeted the President warmly.

President Ilham Aliyev cut the ribbon symbolizing the official opening.

It was noted that the construction of Nakhchivan-Sadarak highway – the only land route between Azerbaijan and Turkey, began in March of 2008. The total length of the four-strip way is 81.95 km, it is 23 meters in width, and the width of the asphalt pavement is 17.2 meters. On the side of the highway, the first portion of which was commissioned during last year's trip of the President to Nakhchivan, there are special drainage and irrigation ditches and a few overpasses have been built on the highway.

The construction works have been carried out by “Gamigaya” company, with the order of the Construction and Architecture Committee of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. As part of the Silk Road, this highway connects Kangarli, Sharursk and Sadarak regions of the Autonomous Republic.

Addressing the local public and construction workers, President Ilham Aliyev said:

- Let me congratulate you on the opening of the road. Last time we opened a section of the road together. Today we are opening a second section of the highway. A modern, beautiful and high-quality road has been laid from Nakhchivan to the border with Turkey. When driving along this road last time, we were convinced that it is indeed of high quality. Arriving here now I can see that the road meets high quality standards. This is a broad, comfortable and smooth road that meets international standards and connects almost all settlements located in this part of the autonomous republic with the city of Nakhchivan.

As you know, road construction is the foundation of development, the basis of normal and comfortable life. Where roads are paved, there is development. Where roads are paved, there are businesses, there is a revival. Today, therefore, road construction is well under way in all regions of Azerbaijan, including Nakhchivan. These great processes are being dealt with rapidly. Construction of other roads is on the agenda and necessary funds will be allocated. There are local companies that can build high quality roads. It is not an easy issue. Road construction requires a very high level of professionalism. A quality road requires great skill and, of course, control. Therefore, I am very pleased that we succeeded in building this beautiful road in Nakhchivan. I do hope that the roads connecting the town of Nakhchivan with all districts will also be at this level, and their construction is on the agenda. I heartily congratulate you again.
