President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has viewed farmer Elshan Khalilov’s 10-hectare cotton field in Meyniman village of Hajigabul district.
The head of state observed the process of starting cotton sowing in the field.
Comparing the yield in cotton growing with previous years, President Ilham Aliyev said: Six years ago, when I enquired about this issue, cotton growing was practically disappearing, only 30,000-35,000 tons were harvested. Last year, 336,000 tons were collected, which is 10 times more.
Since 2015, we have witnessed a special approach of the head of state to many sectors of agriculture. As a result, the yield has significantly increased and special incentive measures have been introduced. A comparative analysis of the facts suggests that cotton growing, a traditional sector for Azerbaijan, is reviving. The country has recorded only three years with yields of more than 30 centners per hectare. In 2015, when the conceptual approach began to be applied, this figure was half as high. The comprehensive measures taken have already led to a return to the historical maximum. Last year, the yield was 33.6 centners per hectare.
Then sowing began in the cotton field of farmer Elshan Khalilov.
This year, 300 hectares will be sown with cotton in Hajigabul. The procurement company has already signed corresponding contracts with 34 farmers and they have been provided with the necessary equipment and seeds.
President Ilham Aliyev: This means that now you will receive 2,600 manats now.
Elshan Khalilov: Yes, 10 gapiks for a kilogram.
President Ilham Aliyev: Has the purchasing price also increased?
Elshan Khalilov: Yes.
President Ilham Aliyev: So the state has done everything. There is such modern equipment. Are all these tractors manufactured here?
Elshan Khalilov: Yes, Mr. President.
President Ilham Aliyev: Combine harvesters are also produced based on he most advanced technology.
