President Ilham Aliyev has received a delegation led by the Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia, Valentina Matviyenko.

The President stressed that the relations between Azerbaijan and Russia were developing dynamically and the issues related to the expansion of cooperation in political, economic and humanitarian spheres were being successfully resolved.

Noting the importance of mutual visits to the development of relations, President Ilham Aliyev expressed his confidence that the visit by the Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia, Valentina Matviyenko, to our country would serve to further enhance the cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia in various areas, including the inter-parliamentary cooperation.

Valentina Matviyenko emphasized that fruitful discussions on the further development of bilateral ties were held during her visit to Azerbaijan. She said that in accordance with the decision of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States passed in December last year, President Ilham Aliyev was awarded the “Commonwealth” Order of the organization for his contribution to the strengthening of cooperation between CIS countries. Then Mrs. Matviyenko presented the award to the President.

Expressing his gratitude for the decision of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States to award him the Order of the organization, President Aliyev described it as an assessment of Azerbaijan’s efforts to expand cooperation in the CIS.
