The National Diagnostic Center has been opened after major overhaul and reconstruction.

The ceremony was attended by President Ilham Aliyev and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva.

Health Minister Ogtay Shiraliyev said the National Diagnostic Center has the equipment and instruments meeting the latest technological advances. It has a general ventilation system, a centralized system of oxygen and nitrogen generators, which enables the staff to convert any room into an intensive care unit at any time. The center has a department of endoscopic diagnosing, surgical and intensive care units. The surgical department has a “smart” operating theater fitted with German equipment. Its systems and software have also been brought from Germany. All surgical rooms have LED-lamps. The video cameras installed here conduct telemetric filming, which enables foreign doctors to monitor surgeries and conduct consultations online. Surgical rooms have state-of-the-art equipment, electronic tables and anesthesia machines. There is also a room for surgical endoscopy equipped with modern laparoscopic instruments. The intensive care unit is equipped with a centralized system of monitors. The unit also has high-quality foreign artificial respirators, defibrillators and other emergency care equipment.

The obstetrics and gynecology department has two maternity rooms, an operating theater and a neonatal unit. One delivery room has Azerbaijan’s first water birth bath. The neonatology department is equipped with the latest instruments, while the center’s in-patient unit has about 70 single wards.

On the second floor, there is an out-patient clinic. The offices of ENT and audiogram specialists will provide high-quality medical services to people with impaired hearing. The cardiologic department, the offices of a neurologist and an ophthalmologist are also fitted with modern medical equipment. The outpatient department operates general therapy rooms, offices of an endocrinologist, a urologist, a gynecologist, a pediatrician, a surgeon – all fitted with the latest diagnostic equipment. The unique 256-slice CT scanner at the center’s radiological department is the second such unit to be installed in a post-Soviet republic and the only one in the South Caucasus. The radiology department will also have a high-tech magnetic resonance imaging machine equipped with advanced software. The unique X-ray machine enables a comprehensive examination of the entire spine from the first attempt. The latest model of a 4D ultrasound machine has the software that has not been used elsewhere in the country.

In addition, a vacuum postal system has been created at the center, enabling communication between both of its buildings. It will facilitate the transfer of urgent test results and documents. Also available is a centralized sterilization system made in Germany. The center’s second building has Azerbaijan’s first and only fully automated laboratory conducting general clinical, bacteriological and PSR-analyses. The genetic laboratory also located here conducts prenatal examination of the fetus, which is important for medical and genetic counseling for the prevention of hereditary diseases.

There are two dining rooms on each floor of the center – for medical staff and patients. The medical facility also has a large conference room for various activities.

After praising the work done, President Ilham Aliyev gave relevant instructions and recommendations.
