Ilham Aliyev reviewed the Children’s Neurological Hospital commissioned after major overhaul

The Children’s Neurological Hospital has been commissioned in Baku after major overhaul and reconstruction.

President Ilham Aliyev and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva have reviewed the hospital.

Flowers were presented to Azerbaijan’s First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva.

Health Minister Ogtay Shiraliyev informed the President and his wife about the hospital. It was noted that Azerbaijan’s first children’s neurological courses had been opened in 1969. Subsequently, a hospital for 150 beds was set up on the basis of the courses. In 1980, at the initiative of merited scientist and Professor Tora Gadirova and with support of nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev, a new building of the Children’s Neurological Hospital for 300 beds was constructed. The opening ceremony had been attended by great leader Heydar Aliyev.

President Ilham Aliyev and his wife reviewed the photographs in the lobby, documenting the opening ceremony of the hospital in 1980 with the participation of national leader Heydar Aliyev and those reflecting the contribution of the President and First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva to the development of healthcare in our country.

It was mentioned that although the Children’s Neurological Hospital, the first such medical facility in the former Soviet Union, was repeatedly renovated in the past, the building had become unusable lately. The major repairs and reconstruction in the six-storey hospital building started in February this year according to government programs on improving the healthcare system in Azerbaijan. The work has been completed at a high level.

The President and his wife examined the computerized tomography department on the first floor of the hospital. It was indicated that the equipment available here would enable quick and accurate diagnosing of diseases. Also on the first floor there is an intensive care ward, as well as ultrasound, echocardiogram, blood sampling, ophthalmology, electroencephalography departments and a laboratory.

During familiarization with the rehabilitation department on the sixth floor, the President was shown a hall for exercise therapy where children can restore their health. There are also offices of a psychologist, a nurse, examination rooms, administrative personnel and a conference hall for 60 people for various activities. The massage and physical therapy rooms are fitted with the latest equipment as well.

Then the President and his wife reviewed the intensive care unit on the second floor. It was noted that it has a modern cardiac monitor, an artificial respirator, a defibrillator and other equipment for the treatment of the most severe patients.

It was mentioned that the third floor of the hospital would have a department of general neurology, while on the fourth there will be a department for the pathology of newborns. The hospital will also have a daytime in-patient unit.

All the offices and wards are finished in accordance with children’s tastes. There are suitable conditions for their entertainment and nutrition in a relaxed atmosphere. The examination and treatment of children with neurological problems will be conducted at a high level.

It was noted that this modern medical facility for 80 beds will have a staff of 250 people, including 65 doctors.

Praising the work done at the hospital, the President gave instructions and recommendations.
