President Ilham Aliyev received Chairman of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia and President of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions, Mikhail Shmakov.
Mikhail Shmakov underlined the importance of the second conference on “Migration problems and challenges: Role of Trade Unions” to be held in Baku. He said the event, which is organized together with the International Labor Organization, would be attended by representatives of various countries. The guest mentioned that one of the main purposes of the event was to discuss international migration issues. To that end, he stressed the importance of projects implemented by trade unions organizations to protect the rights of immigrant workers. Highlighting the fruitful cooperation between the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia and the Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation, the guest said this was reflected in a new agreement signed with the latter.
The President said he was confident that the cooperation between the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia and Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation would contribute to development of bilateral relations. Touching upon the legal regulation of activities of immigrants, the President stressed the importance of this issue for development of bilateral relations and cooperation within the CIS. President Ilham Aliyev said the number of immigrant workers coming to Azerbaijan increases as the county is developing rapidly and underlined the works carried out for labor activity of immigrants.
Mikhail Shmakov presented a photo of a group of persons, who once headed Soviet Union`s Trade Unions, taken with Azerbaijan`s national leader Heydar Aliyev, as a memory to the President. Then, Mikhail Shmakov awarded the President with honorary silver sign of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions and gold order of the Trade Unions Committee of International Communication Workers. Mikhail Shmakov also presented a model of the monument, crafted on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia, to President Ilham Aliyev.
