President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has met with Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in Davos.
President Ilham Aliyev stressed the importance of the meeting in terms of discussing relations between the two countries.
Expressing his satisfaction with the current level of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Pakistan, the head of state praised the two countries' supporting each other in international organizations.
"For us Pakistan is one of the closest allies in the world and we would like to strengthen our partnership even further," said President Ilham Aliyev, stressing the importance of raising the level of economic relationship to the level of political cooperation, which is very strong. President Ilham Aliyev noted that cooperation in energy, transport, investment making and security fields between the two countries was of great importance.”
The head of state offered condolences to Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and the people of Pakistan over the horrible terrorist attack committed at a Pakistani university.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed his gratitude to the Azerbaijani President for his condolences. He said Pakistan was one of the first countries to recognize Azerbaijan's independence.
Describing President Ilham Aliyev as a great friend of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif said that Pakistani people feel enormous love for Azerbaijan.
He underlined that Azerbaijani national leader Heydar Aliyev was held in great respect in Pakistan, adding he also recalls with pleasure his meeting with the national leader during his visit to Islamabad. The Pakistani Prime Minister noted that thanks to President Ilham Aliyev's successful policy, who continues the national leader's line, Azerbaijan has become a powerful country in the world.
Hailing the friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Pakistan, the Pakistani Prime Minister said the two countries are interested in strengthening the current potential for cooperation between.

The sides stressed the importance of the two countries' mutual support in conflict resolution. The head of state praised Pakistan`s fair stance on the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict based on the principle of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
The sides also discussed the further expansion of economic relations, mutual investment, military cooperation and a number of other issues.
