“BakuTel-2010” XVI International Telecommunication and Information Technologies Exhibition opened in Baku Exhibition Center.
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev visited the exhibition.
The President was informed that 115 companies from over 15 countries are taking part in XVI exhibition. The expositions of the local companies cover approximately 40 percent of the general area of the exhibition. The area of the exhibition of the current year is 30 percent larger than the area of the preceding year’s exhibition. The fact that the number of regular participants of the exhibition is over 70 percent proves the increase of interest to this event year by year.
Due to the urgency of problems related to the climate change around the world, as well as the “Year of Environment” in Azerbaijan, this year’s exhibition is organized under the theme “Information Communication Technologies and global climate change”.
It was noted that conferences, forums, seminars and presentations are held within the framework of the exhibition. The main distinguishing character of the current year’s exhibition is related to the number of new products and services presented. In this connection, “Innovation area” project, that provides an opportunity to learn about the newest foreign and local information equipments, technologies and solution option samples, is organized. Program maintenance, navigation systems, wireless technologies, intellectual systems, modern devices and equipments, and other high-tech products are demonstrated in the exhibition.
President Ilham Aliyev was first introduced to the pavilions of “Aztelecom” and “Baku Teleradio” production unions.
Minister of Communication and Information Technologies, Ali Abbasov briefed President Ilham Aliyev on “Regional innovation area” project. It was noted that the aim behind this project is to support development of small and mid-sized businesses, develop human resources in the field of information and communication technologies, attract foreign investments and advanced technologies, and to increase the export potential in the field of ICT. The minister also apprised the President of the works to be carried out with regards to this project.
President Ilham Aliyev was told that “Dilmanc” – voice operated computer software system , is based on the newest scientific-technological novelties. Within the framework of “Dilmanc” project, works are carried out to create systems for speech recognition, transcription of audio readings and voice-operated computers. One of the special features of “Dilmanc” is that it provides for utilization of computers by handicapped people.
Then, President Ilham Aliyev was introduced to the novelties of the “Azerfon” company. The President was briefed about the advantages of 3G mobile TV, camera and other devices.
President Ilham Aliyev was also given information about the activities of “Iskatel” company of Slovenia in Azerbaijan. It was noted that the company, that had been operating in Azerbaijan for over five years, had opened its representative office in the country in 2009 and had created a technological service center.
The pavilion of “Husawei” Chinese Company also attracts attention with its richness. President Ilham Aliyev was told that this economic agency is closely engaged in development of information-communication technologies market in Azerbaijan. It was underscored that this company is the main sponsor of the exhibition.
The President also viewed the activities of “Best solutions” company of Estonia. The President was told that this company is closely engaged in creation of “E-government” State Information System in Azerbaijan. This system provides for fast and secure access of government agencies to electronic markets, reduces the volume of paper documents, expands the integration opportunities in state information system, and speeds up the decision making process in official agencies.
Then, President Ilham Aliyev was informed about “Azedunet” Azerbaijan Education Network. It was mentioned that this project is realized within the framework of “the State Program for informatization of education system in Azerbaijan between 2008-2012”. The President was also briefed on the “Education” video portal and introduced to a sample lesson broadcasted through internet.
President Ilham Aliyev checked out the novelties of “Azercell” company in the country. Payments through mobile phones was also demonstrated to the President. It was added that mobile phones will soon expand their capability of effective payment. President Ilham Aliyev was also given a comparative analysis of 3.75G and 4G technologies. The President was also told about other novelties of “Azercell”.
“Turk telecom” does not spare any effort for development of Azerbaijan information-communication market either. It was noted that, in order to ensure the implementation of “the State Program for creation and development of space industry in the Republic of Azerbaijan”, a foundational document was signed between the Ministry of Communication and Information Technologies, Malaysian “Measat” and the U.S. leading satellite production company “Orbital”, envisaging joint utilization of orbital slot owned by Malaysia and building of a commercial communications satellite. President Ilham Aliyev was given detailed information on the measures to be taken in this direction.
“Softline” company has also been expanding its activities in Azerbaijan since 2006. Two thousand people have trained in the preparatory courses of this company in four years. State agencies, commercial and other bodies attend these courses.
“Delta Telecom” company is also one of the business agencies known for its multi-branch activities in Azerbaijan. It was mentioned that this company has built the biggest DATA center of the region in Azerbaijan. Transfer of internet resources of most of the Republic’s websites to this DATA center is intensified. It was added that the company is also working specifically on creation of new internet content resources. In general, “Delta Telecom” does not spare any efforts in transformation of Azerbaijan into a transit country in the field of ICT.
Having familiarized with the exhibition, President Ilham Aliyev gave an interview to “Euronews” channel. The President answered questions about the development of information-communication technologies in Azerbaijan and the exhibition.
Then, President Ilham Aliyev was introduced to “Culturama” project of “Cultnat” structure of Egypt’s famous Alexandria library. As part of the project, materials featuring Egypt’s history were displayed in a chronological order through nine interactive screens. It was noted that this project is being displayed abroad for the 16th time.
President Ilham Aliyev gave his instructions and suggestions regarding development of communication and information-communication technologies market in Azerbaijan.
