President Ilham Aliyev and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad held an expanded meeting in the presence of delegations.

Having warmly welcomed the guests, President Ilham Aliyev congratulated President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad and Iranian people on the occasion of the Gurban holiday:

- Your visit to Azerbaijan carries a special significance on these holidays. This manifests once again that Azerbaijan is your native home, your Motherland. I am delighted that we have had extensive exchange of views with you today and covered almost every issue on the agenda. We saw and witnessed, yet again, that the relations between Iran and Azerbaijan are developing rapidly in the context of friendship and brotherhood. We see good results in every area; our political ties are strengthening. Great works are carried out in economic, energy, and transportation fields. That is to say, every area important to us is under attention.

President Ilham Aliyev noted that the official visit of the Iranian President to Azerbaijan would yield good results: - Your visit will give a new, strong impetus to bilateral relations. As always, the relations between Iran and Azerbaijan will continue to develop and will bring success and happiness to two friendly nations.

We are at home, next to our brothers. I am confident that you feel the same when visiting Iran. We are two friendly, fraternal states. As you have noted, our relations are very sincere.

There is no obstacle for development of our relations. We have conducted seminal discussions. We have covered all mutually interesting topics.

Iranian President expressed his confidence over further development of relations between the two countries: - Topic of bilateral relations is a shared topic. We have joint positions in regional and international issues as well. I thank you for your courageous position on protecting the Iranian people. We are always next to each other and we will continue to defend each other’s rights resolutely in international organizations and on a world scale.
