As part of a visit to Guba, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended the opening of a training and recreation center of Baku State University.

Flowers were presented to the First Lady of Azerbaijan who also took part in the opening ceremony.

The head of state cut the ribbon symbolizing the opening of the center and toured the building.

The rector of Baku State University, Abel Maharramov, said that the center covers area of 8 hectares. It has been used since 1970. In the past 20 years it has accommodated the IDPs. The construction of the new building began in September 2011 and was completed in September of this year. The work has been carried out using the resources of the University itself.

In the lobby of the center there is a bust of nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev and photo stands describing the great leader’s activities. The building also has photo stands on the "History of Baku State University" and "History of the training and recreation center".

The President and his wife toured the center. It was noted that the center for 400 people has all the conditions for the recreation of teachers and students. The rooms for the faculty and students meet the highest standards. There are conference rooms for organizing various events. The large assembly hall has all the conditions for conducting a variety of activities. Students and teachers can also use the services of a 300-people canteen. The gyms are equipped with modern facilities. It is possible both to do sports and conduct a number of competitions here. The electronic library has a large collection of literature on various areas. In addition, the training and recreation center has laboratories on different directions. All this creates opportunities for teachers and students to effectively conduct practical training and organize local and international events at the center.
