Ilham Aliyev reviewed the Flag Square and Museum in Saatli

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has reviewed the Flag Square and Museum in Saatli.

It was noted that the Flag Square has been joined to the “Martyrs” bas relief of war-victims from Saatli District and the memorial in honor of 31 March – the Genocide of Azerbaijanis. The Flag Square now covers an area of 2 hectares. The construction of the Flag Square started on 10 May of this year and was completed in a short period of time.

A flagpole 82 meters high has been set up in the square located at the entrance to the city and a flag 24 meters long and 12 meters wide hoisted. A map of Azerbaijan cast from metal, the national emblem, the sayings of nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev about Azerbaijani statehood and the words of the national anthem are reflected on four 2-meter-high pedestals.

Fortress-like and arch-shaped gates resembling medieval style of architecture have been built around the square. Three other ancient gates of the square impart further beauty to the square. There are also five statues of medieval Azerbaijani soldiers made of molding material. Three of the statues are placed on fortress walls and two in the square proper.

It was noted that the square has been landscaped, a modern lighting system and two fountains installed in it. President Ilham Aliyev also reviewed the Flag Museum established in the Flag Square.

The crescent-shaped building of the Flag Museum covering an area of 124 square meters consists of an exposition room and two ancillary rooms. The section of the Museum called “Historical states of Azerbaijan” covers a period from the state of Manna to the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. Another section displays statements about the state, Azerbaijani statehood and the flag by Dada Gorgud, Aristotle, Shah Ismayil Khatai, Sheikh Mahammad Khiyabani, Huseyn Javid and Mikayil Mushfig. A papyrus-shaped section comprised of five sections is dedicated to historical states that existed on the territory of Azerbaijan, their leaders, prominent Azerbaijani artists, figures of culture and intellectuals who have contributed to the development of global culture, Azerbaijani khans, as well as paintings by generals of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. A section dedicated to nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev is called “Independence! Complete and absolute victory!” The words of the great leader about Azerbaijani statehood and the national flag are embedded on the walls of the museum.

A total of 27 oil paintings of prominent Azerbaijani thinkers and poets who have played an important part in the history of statehood and culture of Azerbaijan are painted on the walls of the museum’s exposition hall. The museum also displays the Azerbaijani flags used between 1918 and 1991, the medals of independent Azerbaijan and a plaque bearing information about them. Displayed in the section on numismatics are ancient coins attributed to the period of khans of the 3rd century BC, rare exhibits from the 19th and 20th centuries, flag tips of the State of Safavids, Ganja and Karabakh khanates, and emblems of 19th century cities. The flags of ancient states that existed on the territory of Azerbaijan and those of khanates impart special beauty to the exposition section.

After reviewing the Flag Square and Museum, President Ilham Aliyev gave further instructions and recommendations.
