President Ilham Aliyev attended the opening ceremony of Bilav Hydroelectric Power Station in Ordubad within the framework of his visit to Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

The President first viewed the regulatory dam and the reservoir.

The President was informed that construction of the station began in March of 2009. Maximum efforts were displayed to carry out the construction works with a high quality and in a short span of time.

The station receives its power supply from perennial Gilanchay River. At first, water is collected into the regulatory dam. An artificial lake, with an area of 5.15 hectares, has been created in here to collect water. The width of the lake dams is 159 meters; height varies between 7.3 and 9.5 meters. Volume of the lake is 250 thousand cubic meters. From here, water flows to water cleaning reservoirs through open and closed canals.

The three-line reservoir has a volume of 8200 cubic meters. Water is cleaned from solids in here and omitted to the reservoir. The water capacity of the reservoir is 34 thousand cubic meters.

The President was informed that water is pumped from this reservoir to the station building through 1540 meters-long, steel pressure pipe. Water pressure reaches 24 atmospheric pressure. The length of the open canals, pumping water from the regulatory dam to the reservoir is 9091 meters. The length of the closed canals in the area is more than 200 meters. Two siphon pipes, each with a diameter of 2.4 meters and approximately 175-573 meters long, have been installed in here. The water pressure in these siphons is 3.2 and 6.4 atmospheric pressure.

The President then visited the territory where the station`s building is located. Community representatives of the autonomous republic, power engineering specialists and builders greeted the President warmly.

President Ilham Aliyev viewed a model and pictures of the station. It was noted that the building of the station was equipped with all necessary devices. Two turbines made by an Austrian company were installed here. There are two additional generators in the station. The nominal strength of the station is 20 megawatts, while the maximum is 22 megawatts. The power produced in the station is transmitted to the substation. Two 25 megavolt-ampere transformers were installed in the substation. The tension of the substation is 110/35/10 kilovolts. There are two transmission lines for the main transmission network in here. The length and tension of each one of them is 8.5 kilometers and 110 kilovolts. The average annual energy production envisaged for Bilav Hydroelectric Power Station is 80 million kilowatt-hours. Extensive reconstruction works have been carried out and the strips of greenery have been laid in the area of the station. Capital dam strengthening works have been carried out in the area. A 20-km road running to the village of BIlav was repaired during construction of the station.

The President launched the station.

Delivering a speech at the opening ceremony, Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of the Nakhchvian Autonomous Republic Vasif Talybov talked about the projects being implemented in the autonomous Republic and social economic development.

President Ilham Aliyev also addressed the ceremony.

A picture was taken at the end of the ceremony.
