President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev had a meeting with US President Barack Obama in New York.
During the meeting, the sides expressed satisfaction with successful development of bilateral relations in various fields between Azerbaijan and the US, based on the principles of strategic cooperation.
Noting President Ilham Aliyev’s leadership role, US President Barack Obama stressed Azerbaijan as one of the most successful and influential countries in the region.
Mentioning the high level of political relations between the two states, the sides noted the significance of ties in energy field in terms of strengthening the regional cooperation.
In the meeting that touched upon the joint activities of the US and Azerbaijan in international anti-terror operations, the participation of the latter in these operations was highly appreciated. The effective energy cooperation between the two states for long years was mentioned, and Azerbaijan’s contribution to enhancing the international energy cooperation was noted in particular.
Having discussed the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the Presidents stressed the necessity of prompt regulation of the problem for ensuring of peace and stability in the region.
President Ilham Aliyev touched upon the talk process on the resolution of the conflict and reiterated his position on the importance of resolving the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict based on the principle of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.
During the meeting, the Presidents also exchanged views on democratic development processes in Azerbaijan.
Regional and international issues were also discussed during the meeting.
