After the one-on-one meeting, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of the Republic of Croatia Ivo Josipović held a meeting in an expanded format with the participation of delegations.
President of Croatia Ivo Josipović noted that the relations between the two countries were successfully developing in the political, economic and cultural areas. President Ivo Josipović said that there was a good potential for the development of relations in the economic sphere and stressed the importance of further developing the ties in energy, culture, tourism and other areas.
President Ivo Josipović stated that Croatia was in favor of a settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh within the framework of international law.
Recalling with satisfaction his visit to Azerbaijan, the President of the Republic of Croatia said the people of Azerbaijan had an ancient history and rich culture.
President Ilham Aliyev pointed to the active cooperation in political and economic fields and stressed the importance of expanding economic ties and identifying new areas for cooperation. Noting the extensive cooperation in the energy sector, President Ilham Aliyev stressed the importance of expanding cooperation between Croatia and Azerbaijan in this area, as it plays an important part in the energy security of Europe.
Providing detail about the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, President Ilham Aliyev said that Armenia's aggression against Azerbaijan was ongoing. He stressed that Armenia was flouting international law and demonstrating an unconstructive position.
The sides also discussed issues of mutual investment. It was noted that Azerbaijan was actively investing in many countries and planned on cooperating with Croatia on investment issues.
The meeting reviewed prospects for the expansion of ties in the field of transport, culture and tourism and plans associated with the implementation of new projects.
The Presidents expressed their confidence that bilateral relations would continue to develop.
