President Ilham Aliyev has received a delegation led by the Secretary of the National Security Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Saeed Jalili.
The President of Azerbaijan expressed his satisfaction with the successful development of the historical, cultural and religious relations between the two countries and peoples. Indicating that these relations covered all areas, President Ilham Aliyev said that cooperation in the area of security was of particular importance and stressed the significance of regular consultations in this field. The head of state emphasized the importance of reciprocal visits of different levels for the expansion of relations between the two countries and expressed his confidence that the visit by the Secretary of the National Security Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Saeed Jalili, to Azerbaijan would make a contribution to the further strengthening of bilateral relations.
Expressing satisfaction with his first visit to Azerbaijan, Saeed Jalili said that he has always considered Azerbaijan a friendly country. Pointing to the historical friendship between the peoples of the two countries, Saeed Jalili noted that officials of both states had always displayed strong political will to develop bilateral relations. The Iranian official said that his country supported Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and added that Iran was in favor of a settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh within the framework of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.
The sides also exchanged views on different aspects of bilateral relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran, including the further development of relations in the area of security.
