On 11 February, the people of our country bid their last farewell to the renowned scientist, President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, Professor, Academician Mahmud Karim oglu Karimov.
The coffin with the body of the deceased was placed on a pedestal in the somberly decorated assembly hall of the National Academy of Sciences.

Videos describing the scientific advances of the Academician, his meetings as President of the ANAS and presentations at various local and international conferences were demonstrated on a screen.
Wreaths were placed in the assembly hall on behalf of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
Outside the building of the ANAS, wreaths were also placed on behalf of the state, government and creative organizations, universities, various groups, including the academic community of the country.
Somber music was played. Colleagues, friends and acquaintances of the outstanding scientist, representatives of the academic community gave their last respects to this great organizer and intellectual.
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev arrived at the building of ANAS to take part in the lying-in-state ceremony of Academician Mahmud Karimov.
The President expressed his deep condolences to the family and relatives of the prominent scientist.
Then a memorial service was held.
In opening remarks at the memorial service, the Deputy Prime Minister, Elchin Afandiyev, spoke about the life and activities of the prominent scientist, noting that his death was a grievous loss for Azerbaijani science.
Other speakers included Academicians Vagif Farzaliyev, Akif Alizadeh, Ismayil Hajiyev, Ahliman Amiraslanov, Vasim Mammadaliyev. They indicated that the fond memories of outstanding scientist Mahmud Karimov would never be forgotten.
Then the body of prominent scientist and Academician Mahmud Karimov was taken from the ANAS building to the Alley of Honor.
Prayers were read for the deceased at the Alley of Honor. A great scientist, a true citizen and a wonderful person Mahmud Karim oglu Karimov, whose memories will forever live in the hearts of the Azerbaijani people, was buried. Wreaths were placed on his grave.
