On April 23, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China.

Chairman Zhao Leji praised Azerbaijan’s sustainable development, its growing international standing, economic achievements, and improvements in the well-being of its citizens under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev. He described China-Azerbaijan relations as a sincere friendship and a strategic partnership, noting that, thanks to the efforts of both countries' leaders, bilateral ties are currently experiencing their highest level of development in history.

President Ilham Aliyev, in turn, emphasized that Azerbaijan-China relations have reached their peak - the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership.

The President reiterated Azerbaijan’s firm support for the "One China" policy and condemned the recent elections held in Taiwan. He highlighted Azerbaijan and China’s joint efforts in combating terrorism, extremism, separatism, and radicalism.

The meeting also covered cooperation within international organizations, emphasizing the strategic importance of the Middle Corridor. It was noted that cargo shipments by Chinese companies along this route have increased by over 80%, alongside a 20% rise in bilateral trade turnover.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the deepening of inter-parliamentary cooperation, including the strengthening of ties between parliamentary friendship groups and legislative committees.

The cooperation between the New Azerbaijan Party and the Communist Party of China was also highlighted. The sides emphasized the value of sharing governance experience and discussed expanding cooperation in the fields of youth, culture, and sports. The potential establishment of a joint Azerbaijan-China University was also considered.

In the context of renewable energy cooperation, the meeting noted that China’s BYD company has been chosen as a strategic partner for the export of electric vehicles to Azerbaijan, as well as for the local production of several models of electric buses.
