On September 2, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, laid the foundation stone for the Istisu settlement in the Kalbajar district.
The President received a briefing on the details of the settlement. Istisu is situated in the western part of Kalbajar. The settlement, which covers a total area of 63.1 hectares, will be developed in stages. The master plan includes the construction of 159 individual houses, 71 townhouse-style homes (142 apartments), and 10 buildings with 180 apartments.
In the first phase, which will cover 39.2 hectares, 159 individual houses will be built. These homes will feature two, three, four, or five rooms. Initially, 159 families are planned to be relocated to the settlement.
The Istisu settlement will also include a school with a capacity for 352 students, a 100-seat kindergarten, an administrative building, a community center, a sports and health center, a medical facility, a flag square, a sports ground, and other essential infrastructure.
Historically, the main occupations in Istisu have included viticulture, grain farming, animal husbandry, and silkworm cultivation.
