The Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the Appointment of M.B. Babayev as the President of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), the 19th session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol and the 6th session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement

The Republic of Azerbaijan places special importance on environmental protection and addressing climate change.

The designation of the "Country of Clean Environment and Green Growth" as one of Azerbaijan’s national priorities for social and economic development by 2030, the declaration of the liberated territories and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic as green energy zones, and the proclamation of 2024 as the “Green World Solidarity Year” are clear reflections of the country's purposeful and consistent state policy in this area.

Azerbaijan's efforts in combating climate change are highly valued by the international community. As a result, the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) — one of the most prestigious global events due to the number and level of participants and the significance of the issues discussed — will be hosted in Azerbaijan in 2024 by the unanimous decision of the world’s nations.

Azerbaijan shall take all necessary measures to ensure the successful organization of this prestigious session, which underscores the international community's profound respect and trust in our country, with the aim of achieving positive outcomes for both Azerbaijan and humanity.

In accordance with Article 109, Clause 32 of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan and considering established international practice, I order:

1. Mukhtar Bahadur oglu Babayev is appointed as the President of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), the 19th session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol and the 6th session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement.

2. The President-Designate shall be granted the authority to assemble a team of authorized representatives to prepare for and lead the presidency of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), the 19th session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol, and the 6th session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement.

3. This Decree shall come into force on the date of signing.
