Ilham Aliyev received sportsmen and specialists who participated in the First Summer Olympic Games

President Ilham Aliyev received sportsmen and specialists who participated in the First Summer Olympic Games held in Singapore.

The head of state congratulated sportsmen, coaches and specialists on the occasion of a great and confident victory gained in Singapore. President Ilham Aliyev qualified this success as an historic achievement and noted that Azerbaijan stands in ranks of the world’s leading sport countries. The head of state linked the successes gained in sport to the logical result of the consistent and comprehensive reforms which are being implemented in this field.

President Ilham Aliyev described 5 times playing of the Azerbaijani anthem and 8 times raising the Azerbaijani flag in the Olympic Games as a pleasant event and said that our sportsmen have written a glorious history. Expressing his confidence in the fact that our sportsmen will deservingly represent our country also in the London Olympic Games, the head of state recommended to junior sportsmen to increase ever their professionalism.

Congratulating all sportsmen, coaches and specialists who contributed to the victory gained in Singapore, President Ilham Aliyev stressed that the institutions active in the field of sport in Azerbaijan conduct a team work. The head of state noted that the state support extended at high level to the sport would be continued further in our country and emphasized that all persons contributing to the victory gained in Singapore would get prizes.

The golden medalist in power lifting among juniors in the First Summer Olympic Games Nijat Rahimov said that he was proud of this victory and qualified the meeting of the head of state with sportsmen as a sign of big confidence. He said that the sport’s development in Azerbaijan was linked to the name of great leader – Heydar Aliyev and described its broader development as a result of the comprehensive support of the President Ilham Aliyev. Saying that they would continue to spare no efforts in further proper representation of our country in international competitions, Nijat Rahimov expressed a deep gratitude to the head of state on behalf of all sportsmen.

Sharing his joy on the great victory gained in Singapore, the Greco-Roman wrestling coach Ilgar Abdulov said that all conditions were created for the development of sport in Azerbaijan. He said that our sportsmen were resolved to gain great victories also in XXX Summer Olympic Games to be held in London. Ilgar Abdulov expressed his deep thanks to the President Ilham Aliyev for the comprehensive care and support extended to sport and sportsmen in Azerbaijan.

President Ilham Aliyev noted in particular the presence of sportsmen from the regions of our republic among winners and medalists in the Singapore Olympic Games. Stressing that up to 30 Olympic Compounds built in our country since 2000 and 10 more such palaces being constructed, the head of state noted that the promising sportsmen were being formed also in the regions as a result of the comprehensive attention paid to the development of sport in the regions.

President Ilham Aliyev noted the importance of gaining successes in various types of sport in the Singapore Olympic Games and said that the multifaceted development of sport was also kept in the focus of attention as it goes with each field.

Wishing new victories to the sportsmen, the head of state congratulated once again the participants of the meeting and has given his recommendations.
