Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited the Palace of Shaki Khans

President Ilham Aliyev, his wife Mehriban Aliyeva, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his wife Emine Erdogan have visited the Palace of Shaki Khans.

Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva and Mrs. Emine Erdogan were presented with flowers.

First, a photograph was taken in front of the Palace of Shaki Khans.

During familiarization with the palace, it was indicated that this unique historical and architectural monument of the 18th century is located in the upper part of the city, on the premises of the “Yukhari bash” memorial reserve. The palace, considered a unique gem of eastern architecture, was built around 1762, during the reign of Hussein Khan who wrote poetry under the pseudonym of Mushtag and was the grandson of the founder of the first independent khanate in Azerbaijan – Haji Chalabi Khan. In terms of the construction technique, the palace is unique in the world – no nails or glue were used. Each square meter of the ornament consists of 5,000 parts inserted into each other. The palace is surrounded by walls 1,300 meters in length. The two-storey palace covering an area of 300 square meters has six rooms, four corridors and two balconies with mirrors. The palace attracts attention with interesting wall paintings belonging to many types of fine art, particularly those of the 18-19th centuries. The paintings are composed mainly of patterns in the form of geometric shapes, plants, narratives and birds. Of particular interest are the scenes of battles and hunting depicted on the walls of the second floor. The Palace of Shaki Khans has been renovated five times.

It was indicated that the city of Shaki celebrated the 250th anniversary of the Palace of Shaki Khans, one of the rare gems of Eastern architecture, on 4 July of this year.
