President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has arrived in Switzerland to attend the World Economic Forum's annual meeting.
President Ilham Aliyev met with Arnout Damen, Chief Executive Officer and Shareholder of the Dutch "Damen Shipyards Group," in Davos on January 17.
During the discussion, the president recalled his last meeting with Arnout Damen.
Arnout Damen stated that they have begun project implementation in Azerbaijan and highlighted key aspects.
President Ilham Aliyev praised the fact that the "Damen Shipyards Group" has recently begun project implementation in Azerbaijan.
The parties agreed that there are good opportunities for the company to further operations in Azerbaijan.
Noting that Azerbaijan has become an important transit country, the president stated that the volume of cargo transiting through the country's borders has increased by 75%. Taking this into account, President Ilham Aliyev stated that Azerbaijan will now have to boost the number of modern tankers, dry cargo ships, and ferries. The president emphasized that there is also a considerable possibility for engagement with the "Damen Shipyards Group" in this field.
They also discussed the prospect of producing several ships for the Azerbaijan Naval Forces.
