His Excellency Mr. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan

Dear Mr. President.

On behalf of the Organization of Turkic States and on my own behalf, I cordially congratulate Your Excellency and the people of Azerbaijan on the national holiday of your country, 28 May-Independence Day. Please accept my best wishes.

With the proclamation of its independence on 28 May 1918, the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic created the first democratic republic in the Turkic and Islamic world, which, being a turning point in the history of the Azerbaijani people, served as an example for other peoples.

Thanks to the decisive leadership and wise policy of Your Excellency, the Republic of Azerbaijan, which has achieved significant progress in the political, economic and social spheres since the restoration of independence, has achieved even greater development, strengthened its authority in the international arena and turned into a leading country in the region.

The brilliant victory in the 44-day Patriotic War, won thanks to the solidarity and unity of the Azerbaijani people, opened a new page in the history of your country, region and the entire Turkic world and once again showed that as a result of the purposeful and consistent policy of Your Excellency, Azerbaijan is steadily increasing its power and develops, further strengthens the worthy place it occupies in the system of international relations.

Please allow me once again express my deep gratitude to you for the constant comprehensive attention and support of the Organization of Turkic States. I would like to note with confidence that cooperation among Turkic states will deepen more and our organization will achieve more success.

Taking the opportunity presented on the occasion of this significant day, I wish Your Excellency continued success, and the entire Azerbaijani people well-being, progress and happiness.
