President Ilham Aliyev has received a delegation led by the chairperson of the second constitutional committee of the Columbian Senate, Alexandra Moreno Piraquive.

The President expressed his confidence that Alexandra Moreno Piraquive’s visit to Azerbaijan would serve to enhance the relations between the two countries. President Aliyev noted with satisfaction that bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Colombia were turning into a strong partnership.

Indicating that political ties between the two countries were reassuring, the President voiced his hope that these relations would contribute to the development of economic cooperation. Pointing to the importance of inter-parliamentary ties to bilateral relations, President Aliyev expressed hope that the cooperation between the two countries within international organizations would be continued. Stressing that the Columbian parliament’s decision on illegal occupation of Azerbaijani territories by Armenia was of great importance to Azerbaijan, the President thanked the state, people, parliament of Colombia and personally Alexandra Moreno Piraquive for the decision and a fair stance on the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh.

The chairperson of the second constitutional committee of the Columbian Senate, Alexandra Moreno Piraquive, expressed her satisfaction with the visit to Azerbaijan. She said her country was closely following the development taking place in Azerbaijan. The Colombian official said her country supported Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity in the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh and was in favor of resolving the problem in line with international law.

Speaking about economic development and investment opportunities in Colombia, Alexandra Moreno Piraquive noted the importance of a further expansion of the existing friendship between the two countries in political, economic, cultural and other fields.

Indicating that the Azerbaijani people have a friendly attitude towards Columbians, a nation with a long history and diverse culture, President Aliyev noted the importance of strengthening the economic and cultural cooperation. Stating that the establishment of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Colombia had bolstered bilateral relations, President Aliyev noted the importance of reciprocal visits. The President said that Alexandra Moreno Piraquive was decorated one of Azerbaijan’s highest state awards, “The honorary diploma of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan”, for her contribution to the development of friendly relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Colombia, and presented the award to the guest.

Alexandra Moreno Piraquive expressed her gratitude for the high award of the Azerbaijani state.
