Ilham Aliyev received a delegation led by the Foreign Minister of Portuga

President Ilham Aliyev has received a delegation led by the Foreign Minister of Portugal, Paulo Portas.

The President expressed hope that the visit by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Portugal, Paulo Portas, to Azerbaijan would open a new page in bilateral relations. President Ilham Aliyev voiced his confidence that the meetings to be held in our country would be fruitful and the visit would create a good opportunity to determine the main directions of cooperation. The President pointed to the existence of a great potential for cooperation and strong partnerships between Azerbaijan and Portugal.

Foreign Minister Paulo Portas conveyed greetings on behalf of the President of the Portuguese Republic, Aníbal Cavaco Silva, to the President of Azerbaijan. He said there were good opportunities for cooperation between the two countries. The Portuguese Foreign Minister stressed the importance of cooperation between the two countries within the UN Security Council. He said the Embassy of Portugal in Azerbaijan would be established in the near future. Paulo Portas said his country was interested in developing ties with Azerbaijan in various areas, including political, economic, agricultural and tourism sectors.

The sides exchanged views on ways of resolving the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, cooperation with the EU, etc.

The President of Azerbaijan expressed his gratitude for the greetings from President Aníbal Cavaco Silva and asked the minister to communicate his greetings to the President of Portugal.
