Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva held a meeting with UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova. 

The President expressed hope that UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova’s visit to Azerbaijan would be successful. Praising the fact that, as a Director General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova made one of her first trips to Azerbaijan, President Ilham Aliyev congratulated her on her election to this important post and wished her success in future activities. Touching upon the joint projects carried out recently, the President expressed hope in continuation of such positive tendencies and further expansion of active cooperation between Azerbaijan and UNESCO. 

Irina Bokova stressed the importance of her visit to Azerbaijan as a UNESCO Director General in the onset of her tenure. Having noted the existence of great cooperation between UNESCO and Azerbaijan, Irina Bokova pointed out that everyone in UNESCO has great respect for the Organization`s Goodwill Ambassador Mehriban Aliyeva. She praised Mehriban Aliyeva`s contribution to important spheres, such as development of culture, music, tradition and heritage. 

President Ilham Aliyev underscored the importance of the projects carried out together with UNESCO, while mentioning the existence of important plans in this direction. The President expressed hope that UNESCO Director-General`s visit would contribute to development of cooperation.
