It was indicated that Chess Center has extensive opportunities for adolescents and youth to engage in this sport. In addition, the two-storey building of the Center lends further beauty to the city. The total infield area of the Chess Center is 1,500 square meters. Extensive landscaping work has been carried out around the building.
The President was informed that the building used to function as a “Nizami” cinema. In 2009 it was renovated and reconstructed and a Chess Center meeting modern requirements established. In the lobby of the Center there is a stand with photographs reflecting the care and attention of nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev and President Ilham Aliyev to the development of various sports in the country, including chess. There are two chess boards for playing chess while standing here. Chess players have two training rooms and a tournament hall fully equipped for hosting both national and international competitions. There are 40 chess boards, including 10 with an electronic board, here. The games played at such boards can be monitored online.
Along with chess, the Center is expected to operate foreign languages and computer courses. Chess players can play online chess at the Center’s computer room. The room has 13 computers. The Center also has a large library. Young people can study the books written by well-known chess players in order to explore the secrets of the game of chess.
President Aliyev watched young chess players in training.
Then the head of state watched video footage of his visits to Gusar District in 2008 and 2011 using the monitors in the Center’s lobby.
