Ilham Aliyev attended the opening of new pedestrian subways in the Sabail district of Baku

President Ilham Aliyev and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva have attended the opening of new pedestrian subways in the Sabail district of Baku.

In accordance with the “Action Plan on improving the transport system in Baku for 2006-2007” and the “Plan of additional measures on improving the transport system in Baku for 2008-2013”, the construction of overpasses, bridges, tunnels, pedestrian subways and crossings meeting the highest standards and the laying of high-quality roads are under way in the capital.

On the instruction of the President, the reconstruction of the road transport system is carried out on the basis of international standards and in line with the traditions of national architecture. All new facilities are of high quality and modern. The work under way in Baku to improve the road transport system, along with improving the living conditions of citizens, also imparts further beauty to the capital.

President Ilham Aliyev and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva first attended the opening of a pedestrian subway in Neftchilar Avenue in front of the seaport.

The head of state was informed about the parameters of the subway.

It was indicated that the tunnel is 107 meters long, 8 meters wide and 3 meters high. There are two exits: one leads to the National Park and the other to the Absheron hotel. The subway has four escalators. An elevator for the disabled has been installed for the first time. Special measures were taken to prevent slipping on the stairs which have been lined with granite slabs. The subway has a modern drainage system.

After reviewing the subway in front of the seaport, the President and his wife attended the opening of a pedestrian subway near the Sahil underground station.

The President was briefed on the work done. It was noted that the tunnel is 220 meters long and 8 meters wide. A special pipe has been laid to drain rainwater into the sea. The first horizontally moving stairs have been installed in a pedestrian subway. The commissioning of the pedestrian subway, which has eight exits, will improve the safety of traffic and pedestrians.

After examining the pedestrian subway near the Sahil underground station, President Ilham Aliyev and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva attended the opening of three other pedestrian subways in Azneft Square of the capital.

The President was briefed on the work done.

It was mentioned that the first tunnel is 104 meters long and 8 meters wide, the second is 58 meters long and 5 meters wide, and the third is 76 meters long and 5 meters wide. These subways are also lined with granite slabs. The subways have a modern lighting system.

President Ilham Aliyev also attended the opening of another pedestrian subway in Azneft Square, near the building of the State Oil Company.

The head of state was informed of the construction work carried out. It was mentioned that the tunnel is 76 meters long, 6 meters wide and 3 meters high. The subway has two exits. One leads to the National Park and the other to the State Oil Company. The subway has four escalators and is equipped with a modern lighting system. This subway is also lined with granite slabs.

After reviewing the work done, the head of state gave appropriate instructions.
