Ilham Aliyev attended opening of newly renovated Amirvan-Vandam highway

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has attended the inauguration of the newly renovated Amirvan-Vandam highway in Gabala district.

The head of state was told that the 28km-long highway connects five residential areas with a total population of 13,000 people.

President Ilham Aliyev was also informed about the construction of a new bridge over the Bum river on the second kilometer of the Bum-Tikanli-Abrikh road, which links 11 settlements with a population of 20,000 people with the district center and other settlements, and the ongoing work to restore 2km road to Bum settlement.

Speaking about the heroism of General Polad Hashimov, who was born in the village of Vandam, and instructing the head of the District Executive Authority, Sabuhi Abdullayev, to name one of the streets in Gabala after the general and take other appropriate measures to perpetuate his memory, President Ilham Aliyev said:

- As you know, the village of Vandam is a large village, an ancient settlement. This is the second largest settlement after Gabala. The village has a special place both in Gabala District and the country as a whole. We are proud of the village intellectuals and elders.

A native of the village of Vandam, General Polad Hashimov, died in the battles for the Motherland as a result of a provocation organized by the insidious and callous Armenians, by Armenia. I have twice awarded state orders to Polad Hashimov. By my order, he was awarded the highest military rank of general.

I am instructing you to name one of the streets in the city of Gabala after General Polad Hashimov. I have spoken to the mother of the late general and expressed my condolences. His relatives living in Vandam village and Gabala District should be treated with special attention. I know that you are already paying attention. This should be always in the spotlight. The state is taking care of his relatives and children. The Minister of Defense and heads of other relevant bodies have been given appropriate instructions. The general lived in Sumgayit for a long time, so instructions have also been given to the head of the Executive Authority of Sumgayit. Here too, you should take appropriate measures to perpetuate the name of General Hashimov.
