Ilham Aliyev reviewed progress of major overhaul at the Sumgayit seaside culture and recreation park

President Ilham Aliyev and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva have reviewed progress of major overhaul at the Sumgayit seaside culture and recreation park named after Nasimi.

President Ilham Aliyev and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva were informed about the major overhaul and landscaping under way at the park. It was indicated that the park, the foundation of which was laid in 1956-1960, started to operate as a culture and recreation park in 1967 following a decision of the Ministry of Culture of the Azerbaijan SSR. Various trees resistant to wind and drought have been planed in the park which covers an area of 23 hectares. In 1978, the park was named after brilliant Azerbaijani poet Imadeddin Nasimi and a statue of Nasimi erected here in 2003.

It was noted that according to a decision of the Cabinet of Ministers from 2001, the Sumgayit seaside culture and recreation park named after Nasimi was included in the list of historical and cultural monuments of national importance. On the initiative and instruction of President Ilham Aliyev, a new design of the park was prepared.

The President and his wife reviewed the stands reflecting the future appearance of the park. It was noted that after the major overhaul and landscaping the park would become a favorite place of recreation for Sumgayit residents and visitors. It was mentioned that the façades and roofs of adjacent residential buildings would be renewed and brought into line with the contemporary appearance of the city.

After examining the work under way at the park, President Ilham Aliyev issued relevant instructions relating to landscaping and renovation.
