Eight years have passed since the death of the architect and builder of the modern independent state of Azerbaijan, world-famous politician, great son of the Turkic world and nationwide leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev. An extraordinary personality and charismatic leader, Heydar Aliyev, who was noted for great talent inherent in political and public figures, was a living legend.
Over the years the grave of our great leader and ever-living President in the Alley of Honor has become a place of worship for the people of Azerbaijan. People come here throughout the year to pay respects to the memory of the great son of Azerbaijan who has glorified his people and Azerbaijan all over the world and is recognized as one of the most prominent personalities on the planet.
A third of a century in Azerbaijan’s modern history is connected with the name of Heydar Aliyev. Since 1969, for more than 30 years in the modern history of Azerbaijan, the grand achievements made in all spheres of our life have been associated with Heydar Aliyev’s wise public policies. As a logical result of the great work carried out by the great leader in this period, which is viewed as the “era of Heydar Aliyev in the history of Azerbaijan”, his salvation and creative mission, our people have received the opportunity to live in a democratic and law-governed state, obtained the guarantees of a happy future and, most importantly, achieved political and economic independence.
On 12 December, the eighth anniversary of the death of Azerbaijan’s brilliant son Heydar Aliyev, residents of the capital, representatives of districts and cities of the country and foreign guests visited the Alley of Honor to pay tribute to our nationwide leader, lay wreaths and flowers at his grave and read a prayer for the repose of the wise statesman.
On 12 December, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev visited the Alley of Honor to pay tribute to the nationwide leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev.
Also visiting the Alley of Honor were MPs, ministers, heads of national committees, companies and departments, public figures from Azerbaijan and various countries.
President Ilham Aliyev laid a wreath at the tomb of the great leader.
The national anthem of Azerbaijan was played.
The head of state also laid flowers at the graves of outstanding ophthalmologist, Academician Zarifa Aliyeva, statesman Aziz Aliyev and Professor Tamerlan Aliyev.
Also paying their respects to the great leader were Prime Minister Artur Rasizadeh, Parliament Speaker Ogtay Asadov, Chief-of-Staff of the Presidential Administration Ramiz Mehdiyev and other officials.
