President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has met with President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Arif Alvi.
The heads of state posed for photographs.
Then a meeting between President Ilham Aliyev and President Arif Alvi was held.
President Arif Alvi said:
- Mashallah, you will be chairing the Non-Aligned Movement for three years.
President Ilham Aliyev said:
- Yes, we started our activities with your support yesterday. I want to once again express my gratitude to you for supporting our candidacy as the chairing country of the Non-Aligned Movement. In the next three years, we will try our best to strengthen solidarity among participating countries and resolve issues that are sensitive to them. Of course, we will support international law, justice and the Bandung principles. They coincide with our principles, i.e. the principles of territorial integrity, independence, sovereignty and non-interference in each other's affairs. These are the basic principles that Azerbaijan upholds in the international arena. I believe that efforts to resolve issues related to the failure to comply with decisions and resolutions of international organizations will be one of the key elements of our policy.
President Arif Alvi: Such as the United Nations...
President Ilham Aliyev: Indeed, such as the United Nations. In our case, we are talking about four resolutions that require unconditional and immediate withdrawal of Armenian troops from our territories. However, they are not being executed. In some cases, UN Security Council resolutions are implemented in a matter of days.
President Arif Alvi: The Non-Aligned Movement can play a major role here.
President Ilham Aliyev: Of course, we will do that. We will fight against double standards. Taking this opportunity, Mr. President, I want to express my gratitude to your government and to the fraternal people of Pakistan for the continued support of Azerbaijan in the Nagorno-Karabakh issue. Our people highly appreciate the fact that Pakistan has not established diplomatic relations with Armenia due to its occupation of Azerbaijani lands.
President Arif Alvi: Thank you.
President Ilham Aliyev: Our people know this. Our people know that you are true brothers, and we very much appreciate this invaluable gesture of brotherhood. Currently, we have established close brotherly relations covering many areas. I have visited your beautiful country several times.
President Arif Alvi: Yes you have.
President Ilham Aliyev: I am very glad that you have paid a visit to our country, but we look forward to your official visit.
President Arif Alvi: Yes, that is right. I will come as soon as there is an opportunity to do so. Your Excellency, we must pay attention to building up trade and developing cooperation in a number of areas. I believe that we can cooperate in the field of education and health. Upon my return, I will encourage Pakistani institutions that provide good education and offer health services to construct hospitals and schools in Baku that meet the standards. At the same time, Azerbaijan has tremendous, many years of experience in the oil sector. I would like to propose to consider the possibility of establishing an oil refinery in Gwadar. Gwadar is a seaport.
President Ilham Aliyev: Yes, I know.
President Arif Alvi: The North-South corridor actually runs through Chabahar. It is possible to establish communication from Gwadar so that Azerbaijan can export all of its products across the ocean in the south. We may expand cooperation in many areas.
