Ilham Aliyev visited “Shahidlar” monument complex in Lerik

Within the framework of his visit to Lerik, President Ilham Aliyev visited “Shahidlar” monument complex.

The President laid flowers at the “Eternal Flame” monument, erected in honor of nation’s heroic sons, who gave their lives fighting for Azerbaijan’s independence and territorial integrity.

The President was informed that, as it is the case with other regions of the republic, the memories of those who perished in Karabakh and Great Patriotic War are honored in Lerik. The “Shahidlar” monument complex, built in 2008, is an example of this veneration. Lerik region accounts for over 130 martyrs of Karabakh war. Five of them have been conferred with National Hero title for their valor. The names of Lerik martyrs are engraved on a marble board of the monument. Currently, there are 80 Karabakh war-disabled veterans in the region. The government takes good care of martyr families and veterans.

Residents of Lerik region demonstrated courage in Great Patriotic War as well. 6500 Lerik residents fought against fascism, and 1584 of them died heroically. Currently, 34 participants of Great Patriotic War reside in the region.

President Ilham Aliyev enjoyed a panoramic view of Lerik from the complex.
