Ilham Aliyev attended the opening of the Imishli Olympic Sports Center

President Ilham Aliyev has attended the opening of the Imishli Olympic Sports Center.

The head of state cut the ribbon marking the opening of the center.

Minister of Youth and Sports Azad Rahimov informed President Ilham Aliyev that the construction of the center, located in the center of the town of Imishli, started in October 2007. A plot of land covering 5 hectares was allocated for the construction of the immense sporting facility. Construction has been carried out at the highest level and completed in early May. The two-storey building has a universal gym, a swimming pool, gyms for boxing, wrestling, fitness and chess halls, a conference room, as well as a canteen and a hotel.

It was indicated that the center is fitted with the equipment necessary for the development of various sports in Imishli at the level of contemporary requirements. A football pitch and a basketball and volleyball court have also been provided for the disposal of sportsmen. Landscaping and amenity planting activities have been carried out on the premises of the Olympic Sports Center covering 11,000 square meters, and trees and flower bushes planted. The sporting facility is also equipped with a boiler house, a transformer substation, a water tank and artesian wells. There are security and fire safety systems as well.

It was noted that the main building covering 12,000 square meters consists of five sections.

On the first floor the head of state reviewed the photo stands documenting the attention and care of nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev and President Ilham Aliyev for the development of physical culture and sports in the republic, and the successes of Azerbaijani sportsmen in various international competitions.

While on the first floor, President Ilham Aliyev toured the spacious gyms intended for such sports as boxing and wrestling. It was stressed that the gyms are fitted with all the necessary equipment. President Ilham Aliyev watched sportsmen in training and then talked to them.

President Ilham Aliyev reviewed the swimming pool. It is 25 meters in length and 12.5 meters wide. There is a humidity reduction facility here. There are 135 seats around the swimming pool.

There is a fitness gym, a chess hall and fully equipped offices on the second floor of the building. The main building has changing rooms, training gyms and other facilities. The center’s canteen can accommodate 100 people at a time. Also on the second floor is a 60-seat conference room.

President Ilham Aliyev also toured the center’s hotel. He was informed that the 32-people hotel had 15 rooms. It has all the conditions for both sportsmen and visitors to have good rest. The hotel is equipped with a special ventilation system.

While reviewing outdoor sporting facilities, President Ilham Aliyev was informed that the football pitch and the basketball and volleyball court could host competitions of both district and national levels. It was indicated that the center has separate gas, electricity, water and sewage lines.

During familiarization with the universal gym, President Ilham Aliyev was informed that the gym, 48 meters in length and 36 meters wide, could also host different international competitions. It can seat 845 spectators. There are all the conditions in the gym for conducting international competitions in futsal, basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, boxing and wrestling.

President Ilham Aliyev met with representatives of the public of Imishli District here.

Residents of Imishli warmly welcomed the Azerbaijani President.

The head of state addressed the public with a speech.

Then, the winner of the 2010 World Cup in wrestling, bronze medalist of the 2008 European championship and a participant in the Beijing Olympic Games, Emin Azizov, spoke on behalf of residents of Imishli District.

President Ilham Aliyev expressed his satisfaction with the work done.
