Ilham Aliyev attended the opening of the reconstructed Astara-Bala Shahagaj motor road

President Ilham Aliyev has attended the opening of the reconstructed Astara-Bala Shahagaj village motor road.
Local residents warmly welcomed the head of state.

President Ilham Aliyev examined the photo stand documenting the previous and current state of the road.

The head of the Astara District Executive Authority, Mahir Guliyev, said that according to the instructions of the head of state, important measures are being taken in districts to improve the road transport infrastructure. The construction of the Astara-Bala Shahagaj motor road, one of the district’s main roads, is part of such measures.

It was indicated that taking into consideration the requests from the residents of settlements and villages with a population of more than 50,000 people regarding the tension that had emerged as a result of intense traffic on the Astara-Lankaran motor road, President Ilham Aliyev signed a Resolution “On additional measures to step up the socioeconomic development of Astara District” on 21 April 2010. Under the Resolution, funds in the amount of 3.5 million manats were allocated to the Executive Authority of Astara District from the Reserve Fund of the President for the reconstruction of the Astara-Bala Shahagaj motor road.

The head of state was informed that the 19-km Astara-Bala Shahagaj motor road, built along the Caspian coast in parallel to the Alat-Astara highway, was used as a road of state importance. Due to neglect and the rising level of the sea, it became unserviceable. The Astara railway station, the Astara Olympic Sports Center under construction, the oil and cargo terminals and other facilities of state importance are located along the road that connects seven residential settlements of the district. The motor road has now been reconstructed in line with modern requirements, and landscaping and amenity planting carried out along it. The asphalt coating is 6 meters wide and 7 centimeters thick, while on both sides of the road there are pavements 2.6 meters wide. Since a part of the road lies near the Caspian, shore protection activities have been carried out on an area of 500 meters. Besides, three bridges and six water discharge outlets have been renovated and five bus stops established along the road.

It was indicated that the commissioning of the Astara-Bala Shahagaj motor road, which has been built at the level of modern standards, has eliminated yet another problem in the district.

After a meeting with representatives of the public of Astara District, President Ilham Aliyev cut the ribbon symbolizing the opening of the road.

The head of state gave a high assessment to the work done on the Astara-Bala Shahagaj motor road.
