President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has reviewed the project on major overhaul and reconstruction to be carried out at Heydar Aliyev the Sports and Concert Complex.

The rapid economic development taking place in Azerbaijan creates favorable conditions for a dynamic transformation of all spheres of life. Under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev our country has made great strides in terms of the pace of economic development and attaches great importance to the creation of modern infrastructure, construction of new facilities and major overhaul of the existing ones.

The development of sports in Azerbaijan is always the focus of attention as one of priority areas. Our country is world-renowned as a sporting nation. It has carried out consistent work to develop new and modern sports facilities and infrastructure in line with the highest standards. Along with the construction of the advanced new infrastructure, Azerbaijan, which is preparing for the inaugural European games to be held in Baku in 2015, is also working on the rehabilitation of the existing sports facilities. In accordance with the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev, a project on the reconstruction of the Heydar Aliyev Sports and Concert Complex has been launched at the level of modern standards.

The head of state arrived at the complex to examine the work to be carried out at this sport and concert center.

Youth and Sports Minister Azad Rahimov informed President Ilham Aliyev about the work to be carried out.

The President gave instructions regarding activities to be done not only at the complex proper, but also on an adjacent area.

Then, President Ilham Aliyev was familiarized with the repairs and reconstruction to be carried out on the arena, various training halls and on the façade of the Heydar Aliyev Sports and Concert Complex. It was noted that in accordance with the new project, preparatory work for the start of the major overhaul and restoration on all sections of the complex has already been completed, including the main and training halls and various gyms. Work is under way on the establishment of new lighting, fire protection and security systems at the complex, as well as video surveillance and alarm systems and modern elevators. The complex will be connected to a new high-speed Internet network. The building already has a ventilation system that meets modern requirements.

The head of state reviewed the areas where overhaul and reconstruction will be carried out and gave instructions on completing the job in a quality manner.

Then, President Ilham Aliyev visited the park adjacent to the Heydar Aliyev Sports and Concert Complex. The head of state also issued an instruction regarding the reconstruction of the park and doing high-quality landscaping work.
