President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev has attended the opening of a new residential settlement for the personnel of the "Astara" border checkpoint of the Lankaran border detachment of the State Border Service, the Border Command and the border outpost, as well as the renovated complex of office buildings of the Border Command and the border outpost.
The Chief of the State Border Service and the Commander of Border Troops, Lt-Gen Elchin Guliyev, reported to Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Ilham Aliyev.
It was noted that the area around the complex has been extensively landscaped, new buildings erected and a green area set up. The new settlement covers an area of about 5 hectares. The eight-storey building has 77 apartments and each of the other two buildings has eight apartments. All 93 apartments in the settlement are provided with all the necessary conditions. There is also a kindergarten for 50 kids and a leisure park here.

The government of Azerbaijan is taking all the necessary measures. Everyday problems and housing issues of our border guards are being resolved and salaries increased. Azerbaijan is a strong state. And a strong state must have powerful military potential.

It was also noted that the two-storey headquarters of the "Astara" Border Command responsible for the protection of a 25.3-km section of the state border has been renovated. The three-storey office building of the "Astara" border outpost has also been reconstructed to modern standards.
