President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has reviewed the historical center of Zagatala after reconstruction and restoration.
The President was informed that the area known as the historical center covers approximately 6.2 hectares. It includes the Dada Gorgud Square established in the 1850s, the Gala Duzu stairs, the Heydar Aliyev Avenue and a section of the 28 May Street. President Ilham Aliyev reviewed the photo stands describing the reconstruction and restoration work carried out in the center, as well as the Zagatala fortress.
The head of state walked around the Dada Gorgud Square. He was informed that the reconstruction had started in April 2012. A 2.5-meter statue of Dada Gorgud has been erected and memorial built in the square. There are six bastions and four swimming pools with fountains here. More than 1,000 ornamental trees and flower bushes have been planted in the square. There are all the conditions for the recreation for local residents. The roofs and façades of more than 50 private houses, public buildings and businesses have been reconstructed. The Heydar Aliyev Avenue has been overhauled. In addition, sidewalks and the square have been laid with 5,000 square meters of tiles, while an area of 400 square meters has been landscaped. At present, work is under way on restoring the historical appearance of the façades of residential and public buildings around the Dada Gorgud Square.
The President praised the work done and gave further instructions and recommendations.
