President Ilham Aliyev attended the opening of Nakhchivan Regional Information Center for handicapped people, founded with support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
The President cut the ribbon symbolizing the official opening and toured the center.
It was noted that the aim of creating the center is to provide IT education to the handicapped people, including the visually impaired kids. The handicapped people from seven regions of the Autonomous Republic and the Nakhchivan city can benefit from the services of the center, the project of which is co-implemented by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Ministry of Communication and Information Technologies and UNDP.
A 60-seat cinema hall and a 40-seat conference room were built in the two-storey center. Showing of movies with subtitles for the handicapped is planned in the movie hall. A leisure room, two computer labs with 24 computers, and training rooms with 12 computers serve in the center. All conditions were created here for the visually impaired people to log on to internet through Braille monitors to obtain information and to print them out by using the Braille printers. Visually impaired people can obtain any information they want through the devices that transform texts into audio format. A special corner of books with Braille shrifts have been created in the library. Special keyboards and earplugs have been set for the visually impaired. Through “Book-lover” special device, one can upload any information to computers and have it played audibly.
There is also an audio studio in the center. Publication of audio books is possible in this studio. Users can obtain necessary information through the website of the center and can communicate via “acquaintance” section. A special intellectual-development game room has been created for the mentally deficient people.
In the front yard of the building, with a general area of 860 square meters, greening works have been carried out and leisure spots created. A similar center was built in Ganja city through joint cooperation.
