President Ilham Aliyev has been familiarized with progress in the expansion and construction of motor roads in the Heydar Aliyev International Airport – Mardakan roundabout – Bilgah settlement area.
Following the “Additional action plan to improve the transport system in Baku for 2008-2013”, approved by presidential resolution from 8 July 2008, the reconstruction of the road from the Heydar Aliyev International Airport to the Bilgah settlement, construction of road junctions and pedestrian crossings, expansion and construction of a motor road in the direction of Bilgah and Sumgayit has been launched. The motor road being designed is extremely important from the standpoint of providing convenient passage for those living in the northern part of Baku, including the Bilgah, Nardaran, Kurdakhani, Pirshagi, Fatmayi, Goradil, Novkhani, Saray, Jorat and Sumgayit, as well as those resting in recreational centers located here.
Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov informed the President about the project. It was noted that the overpass on a three-tier junction at the Mardakan roundabout will be 220 meters long and 23.5 meters wide. In accordance with the project, the tunnel under construction here is 55 meters long and 9.8 meters wide.
President Ilham Aliyev was also familiarized with the construction of the tunnel and the road junction to be built at the Buzovna railway crossing.
The head of state was informed in detail of the key technical characteristics of the construction. It was indicated that the crossover to be established would be 49.3 meters long and 41.5 meters wide, while the length of support walls will be 658 meters.
Then President Ilham Aliyev was familiarized with the construction of the tunnel and the road junction at the Buzovna roundabout. It was noted that the crossover would be 19.4 meters long and 41.5 meters wide. The tunnel will be 17 meters wide. A pedestrian crossing will also be built here.
Then President Ilham Aliyev was informed of progress of work on designing and construction of a two-tier tunnel-type road junction in the Bilgah settlement outside the Cardiology Center. The President was informed that work was being done on schedule.
President Ilham Aliyev was then familiarized with the construction of a new 14-km Bilgah-Novkhani-Sumgayit road. The head of state was informed of the main parameters the six-lane road. The highway being designed will also allow residents of settlements located in the direction of Mashtaga-Saray-Sumgayit-Tagiyev village, those resting there, as well as those living in Pirallahi, Dubandi, Zira and other settlements located in the north-eastern part of the Absheron Peninsula, to take highway M-1 without entering Baku. Along with this, the road will provide easy passage for the population of Sumgayit and other northern regions to the mentioned Baku villages, coastal recreation centers, including the Heydar Aliyev International Airport, without entering the center of Baku, which will provide more cost-effective, safe and convenient traffic.
To ensure safe vehicle traffic and pedestrian movement, the project envisages the construction of multi-level road junctions and pedestrian crossings. President Ilham Aliyev has asked Minister of Transport Ziya Mammadov to continue the construction of the road and ensure its connection to the Baku-Russian border and the Baku-Shamakhi roads.
After examining the process of construction, the head of state issued relevant instructions.
