As part of a visit to Azerbaijan’s north-western region, President Ilham Aliyev has arrived in Zagatala District.
The Minister for Emergency Situations, Col-Gen Kamaladdin Heydarov, and the head of the Zagatala District Executive Authority, Mubariz Ahmadzadeh, briefed the President about the ongoing reconstruction and other work being done in the district to eliminate the consequences of the earthquake that occurred on 7 May of this year.
Then, President Ilham Aliyev attended the opening ceremony of secondary school No. 2 for 750 pupils in Zagatala.
The head of state cut the ribbon symbolizing the opening of the school.
It was noted that the school built in 1952 was initially designed for 500 pupils. As a result of the earthquake of 7 May of this year, the school building became unusable. In accordance with the instruction of the President, the school was rebuilt in June. The new school, which attracts attention with its modern appearance, has all the conditions for a quality education process. The three-storey school is fitted with modern equipment and teaching facilities. Its total area is one hectare. There are teaching sections A, B, C, D and E. In the courtyard of the school there is a football pitch, two water tanks, a 630-kilovolt transformer, and a centralized heating system.
On the first floor of the school there is a photo stand reflecting the care and attention of nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev and President Ilham Aliyev to the development of education in the country.
While touring the school, President Ilham Aliyev was informed that it has 45 classrooms, subject-specific rooms, a library with a rich collection of books, an assembly hall, student lounges, a canteen for 250 people, a cafeteria, a teachers’ room, offices and other rooms. It also has an English language center, a computer lab connected to the Internet and modern laboratories. This creates great opportunities to expand knowledge and improve student skills.
Currently the school provides education to 700 pupils. Education is provided by a staff of 110 teachers. Teaching at the school is conducted in Russian.
The school also operates wood carving, metalwork and sewing workshops. Along with the efficient organization of recreation, this enables pupils to enhance their skills and abilities.
It was noted that the school’s gym, fitted with modern equipment, has the necessary conditions for doing mini-football, basketball and other sports.
The head of state expressed his satisfaction with the conditions established at the school and wished the team every success in the new academic year.
