Ilham Aliyev reviewed work under way at the Intelligent Transport Management Center in Baku

President Ilham Aliyev has reviewed work under way at the Intelligent Transport Management Center in Baku.

Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov informed the President about the work ongoing at the center. He said the application of new technologies is of great importance for the safety of people using transport vehicles, for monitoring automobile traffic in the capital and eliminating the problem of traffic jams. This is why an agreement was reached with the Korean company SK C&C in 2008 to introduce an intelligent transport management system in Baku. A new system project has been developed and its implementation has begun. The establishment of the Intelligent Transport Management Center in Baku within the framework of the project started in Baku in April 2010. Most of the work has already been completed. The project will be completed at the end of this year.

The head of state was informed that road traffic in the city would be managed by a modern server, 18 units of network equipment and a 120-square-meter monitor, all located in a five-storey office building.

President Ilham Aliyev inspected the intelligent control room. It was noted that the world’s biggest monitor used in the intelligent management of transport operations and reflecting 600 digital images is installed at the center. The monitor displays real-time information at 150 intersections and the management of 2,000 buses. The monitor also reflects a digital map of the Absheron Peninsula.

It was noted that the center works in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs in crime prevention. The center also will monitor the stills captured by 600 video cameras of the ministry.

President Ilham Aliyev also reviewed the equipment used in the intelligent transport management system. It was noted that the Korean terminals established at bus-stops provide information about bus schedules and the time of their arrival at the bus-stop. The equipment for the management of traffic lights also serves to regulate road traffic. The single payment system to be used on public transport in the future will significantly enhance passenger comfort. Korean equipment will also be used here.

The President also watched a presentation about the center. It was noted that a new building of the Ministry of Transport was to be built near the center.

During familiarization with the way the intelligent transport system is organized in the country, President Ilham Aliyev was informed that the first phase of a three-phase system covers the main streets and avenues of Baku. At the second stage, the process will cover Greater Baku and Absheron, or an area of 2,200 square kilometers, and at the third it will cover the transport infrastructure in all districts. The installation of the intelligent transport system in Baku as part of the first phase has already been completed. For the installation of the intelligent system, 450 kilometers of autonomous power lines and 320 kilometers of fiber-optic communications have been laid in the capital. In order to manage signal systems for the collection of information on traffic flow and reduce traffic congestion in the capital, 150 control systems are also being established.

It was indicated that 326 systems are installed at the center to analyze the situation on the roads using surveillance and display it on the central monitor.

It was noted that surveillance cameras are a key feature of the intelligent transport system. To monitor traffic conditions, identify the vehicles that create problems in traffic, register accidents and monitor the areas with dense traffic, 60 cameras are installed on city roads. And there are 48 electronic boards for the transmission of information about traffic conditions in the form of graphs to drivers. In order to prevent parking in unauthorized places, which is one of the major causes of traffic jams in the capital, control systems will be installed in 44 locations of the city. The specialized equipment that is part of the intelligent control system allows you to simultaneously monitor the movement of buses and determine their location. At the initial stage, the system will track the movement of 2,000 buses. In the future, to prevent crime on public transport, cameras will also be installed on buses.

According to Korean specialists, the intelligent transport management system being established in Baku is in line with the latest requirements.

After examining the work under way at the center, President Ilham Aliyev gave relevant instructions and recommendations.
