The European Union “Eastern Partnership” summit has been held in Warsaw, the capital of Poland.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has attended the summit.
The summit participants had a collective picture taken.
In opening remarks at the summit, which is being attended by heads of state and government of European Union member-states and countries participating in the “Eastern Partnership” program, the Prime Minister of Poland, a country currently chairing the organization, Donald Tusk, welcomed the guests and spoke about the importance of the “Eastern Partnership” program.
It was noted that the main purpose of the summit is to accelerate integration of “Eastern Partnership” countries into Europe and further develop mutual ties.
The summit, which also represents importance in terms of bilateral meetings, discussed political and economic aspects of cooperation, priority programs, cooperation with European financial institutions, visas, etc.
Then the European Union “Eastern Partnership” summit adopted a Joint Declaration.
The first “Eastern Partnership” biennial summit was held in the capital of the Czech Republic, Prague, on 7 May 2009. It was at that summit that the “Eastern Partnership” program was adopted.
The “Eastern Partnership” initiative was put forward by Poland and Sweden on 26 May 2008 at a meeting of the European Union Council on General Affairs and External Relations.
