President Ilham Aliyev has received the President of the International Boxing Association, Ching-Kuo Wu, and members of the International Olympic Committee.

Expressing his satisfaction with the fact that Azerbaijan is playing host to the world championship in boxing, President Ilham Aliyev said he was confident that the championship would be successful. Saying that a lot has been done in preparation for the championship, President Ilham Aliyev added that Azerbaijan has gained extensive experience in conducting international sporting events. After pointing to the importance of conducting such prestigious competitions in Azerbaijan, President Ilham Aliyev expressed hope that it would contribute to the expansion of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the International Olympic Committee.

The President of the International Boxing Association, Ching-Kuo Wu, stressed the importance of the fact that youth and cadet world championships had also been held in Baku earlier. He also congratulated the Azerbaijani President on the fact that the world boxing championship in which athletes will compete for Olympic licenses is to be held in Azerbaijan. He thanked President Ilham Aliyev for the attention and care he is paying to the development of sports, including boxing, as President of the Azerbaijan Olympic Committee.

The head of state expressed his gratitude to the International Boxing Association for its support for Azerbaijani boxers. President Ilham Aliyev stressed that there are excellent conditions in Azerbaijan to do sports. Recalling the successful performance of Azerbaijani boxers in the youth Olympic games, the President indicated that the fact that Azerbaijan is playing host to a world championship in boxing will further enhance interest in this sport.
