Ilham Aliyev reviewed progress of landscaping and reconstruction work in the Surakhani district

As part of familiarization on the ground with the execution of the instructions given at a meeting at the Mayor’s Office of Baku dedicated to the socioeconomic development of suburban settlements of Baku, President Ilham Aliyev has visited the Yeni Surakhani settlement of the Surakhani district.

Baku Mayor Hajibala Abutalibov informed President Ilham Aliyev of the work done using a layout of the settlement. He said that according to the instructions issued by the head of state at the said meeting, large-scale landscaping work was under way in the Surakhani district as well. The asphalt coating of 150 square meters of roads is about to complete in the Yeni Surakhani settlement. The lighting system along local roads has been replaced, over 300 lampposts installed and pavements renovated for the convenience of pedestrians. A drain and ground waters canal has been repaired in the settlement.

After reviewing the work, President Ilham Aliyev met with local residents who thanked the head of state for the landscaping and reconstruction work.

Then President Ilham Aliyev reviewed the landscaping and reconstruction work at a local park. Necessary conditions have been established here for local residents to have effective leisure, children’s ground have been set up.

Then the head of state arrived at 14 July Street in the center of the Yeni Surakhani settlement. He reviewed a memorial complex established in memory of nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev’s first ascent to power in Azerbaijan in 1969 and spoke to local residents who thanked the head of state for the landscaping work in the settlement.

During President Ilham Aliyev’s previous visit to Yeni Surakhani local residents informed the head of state that one of the buildings of Secondary School No 85 was in complete disrepair and asked for assistance in rebuilding it. President Ilham Aliyev had issued a relevant instruction in that regard. Following the instruction, the unsafe school building was knocked down and a new building for 480 pupils will be built instead. The President was informed that 12,000 square meters of asphalt had been laid on the street and 200 lampposts replaced.

The head of state also met with the school staff. Teachers thanked the President for the instruction to build a new building. Together with the school staff, President Ilham Aliyev also took part in a ceremony to lay the foundation stone of the new school building. The head of state then reviewed another unsafe school building and issued relevant instructions.
