President Ilham Aliyev has attended the opening of the Astara gas compressor station.

The station staff warmly welcomed the head of state.

The president of the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic, Rovnag Abdullayev, informed President Ilham Aliyev that construction work at the gas compressor station in Astara District had been successfully completed and that it was accepted by the commission. The station uses modern automated systems and equipment to carry out necessary work involving treatment of incoming gas, its two-stage compression, cooling of the compressed gas, as well as its metering and injection into the trunk pipeline.

The head of state examined the operation of the station and commissioned it.

It was indicated that the existing Astara gas compressor station was built in 2005 in order to supply the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic with natural gas. It is equipped with two compressors with a gas turbine engine and ancillary facilities. To ensure reliable supplies of gas to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and export natural gas to Iran under the contract signed between Azerbaijan and the neighboring country, the task was set that a new gas compressor station should be built. The project is to be implemented in two stages. As part of the first stage, six 10 GKNAM compressors with a gas engine were installed, enabling the increase of daily transportation volume to 3.5 million cubic meters. At the second stage, the number of compressors will be raised to 10, which will provide the opportunity for increasing the capacity of both compressor stations to 5 million cubic meters.

It was indicated that construction was carried out under order of AzeriGaz Production Unit by NeftGazTikinti trust using the design of SOCAR’s NeftGazElmiTedgigatLayihe Institute. The station permanently employs 108 personnel.

President Ilham Aliyev was informed that the office building established on the premises has good working conditions and all offices are fitted with modern equipment.

The head of state expressed his satisfaction with the work done and wished the station staff further successes.
