Ilham Aliyev took part at the opening ceremony of “Sinigkorpu” border customs check-point of Gazakh region.

Chairman of the State Customs Committee Aydin Aliyev told President Ilham Aliyev that development is observed in customs system of Azerbaijan, just like in all other spheres. The customs service is modernizing and necessary measures are being taken to improve the social and working conditions of the employees. The fully reconstructed Sinigkorpu border customs point is a continuation of these measures. The new customs point, the construction of which was completed in October of 2010, conforming to the modern standards, is the main check-point  a major gateway between Azerbaijan and Georgia. Extensive renovation-restoration activities were carried out and greenery strips were planted during the reconstruction works. Alongside the auxiliary facilities, a 3-storey administrative building was also built at the area of the check-point. Hundreds of vehicles and thousands of people pass through the customs check-point on a daily basis. These kinds of modern customs check-points exist only in Azerbaijan in the entire South Caucasus region.

The President viewed the exhibition reflecting the previous and current state of customs checkpoint.

President Ilham Aliyev was informed that the construction of a new cargo terminal is planned in the area of the customs check-point. Being one of the biggest in the region, the terminal would future cooling storage facilities for preservation of products, a hotel for accommodation of passengers and an office.

During the tour of the administrative building of the customs check-point, it was mentioned that there are classrooms for raising the theoretical knowledge of employees. The operations room has been equipped with the most necessary and modern technical devices.

The special X-ray machine, installed in the area of the check-point, is being used in the most advanced countries of the world. Thorough screening of all cargos inside vehicles is possible by this X-ray machine. This, in turn, helps detect the smuggled goods and provides for high-level performance of the customs service.

At present, there are 4 customs control lines at the check point. Two of them carry out export customs control, while the rest deal with the import control. A single window system has been created at the checkpoint, where the employees of cargo, finance, transportation tax departments work. Sanitary quarantine, phytosanitary and veterinary surveillance stations are also located here.

President Ilham Aliyev was also briefed about the Sinigkorpu historical-architectural monument. It was mentioned that the monument, which is a memory of XII century, has played the role of a customs point between Azerbaijan and Georgia for many years. The restoration of the bridge, now protected as a monument of state-importance, is intended in the future.

After familiarization with the border customs check-point, President Ilham Aliyev gave relevant instructions and recommendations.
