President Ilham Aliyev has reviewed in Baku the construction of the new Hasan Aliyev Street - Ziya Buniyatov Avenue - Olympic Stadium Highway. The construction of numerous flyovers, bridges, tunnels, subterranean and overhead pedestrian crossings and international-standard highways has been under way in the capital and the regions for the past few years. All this work is being carried out under the State Programme to Renew and Develop the Road Network in Azerbaijan for 2006-2015.
Work on projects to regulate traffic and improve the road infrastructure in Baku city also is being implemented successfully, in line with the instruction by President Ilham Aliyev. The construction of new roundabouts, bridges, subterranean and street-level crossings is aimed at resolving the problem of road congestion in Baku and at ensuring the public’s convenience. As a social measure, the improvement of the road transport system is also an indicator of the country’s economic strength. The major infrastructure projects currently under way in the country show that the successes achieved in recent years, fully revealing Azerbaijan’s potential, confirm the correctness of the steps taken to ensure the country’s future.
President Ilham Aliyev was briefed in detail on the highway’s engineering data. It was noted that the new highway which will be laid from Hasan Aliyev Street in parallel to Ziya Buniyatov Avenue to Keroglu Metro Station will be 17 km long. A section of the road will have four lanes and another section of it will have six lanes. The narrowness of the road in this direction used to be a hindrance to the volume of traffic and caused jams. The new highway will ensure easy and congestion-free traffic in this direction. Bridges, tunnels and pedestrian crossings will be built along the highway.
It was noted that the first phase of the highway to be ready will be the section up to Hasan Aliyev Street. The section of the road from Hasan Aliyev Street to Ganjlik Metro Station will be built in phase two. The main aim of the project which is part of the State Programme is to provide a road traffic route from all directions leading to Keroglu Metro Station, both to the city centre and to Ganjlik Metro Station, via Hasan Aliyev Street. At the same time, this arterial road will create a direct and convenient road link with the Olympic Stadium which is under construction. By also creating easier access to international-category highways for vehicles from Baku settlements, the new highway will ease traffic in the city centre.
In line with the head of state’s instructions, the reconstruction of the republic’s road transport system, including in Baku city, is based on the principle of organically combining international standards and national architectural traditions. All the new facilities are striking by their high quality and modernity. This tradition will also be observed in the building of the new highway.
President Ilham Aliyev has made it a priority task to turn the capital into one of the most beautiful cities in the world, with comfortable living conditions. The reconstruction of Baku’s road traffic system based on cutting-edge global experience, which has got under way in recent years, is a most important step in this direction.
